For over 700 years Jewish People found refuge in China during times when no other country would allow them a safe haven. Even during the last century especially, many thousands escaped from Russia and later from Nazi Germany, surviving the Holocaust in which over six million were murdered by the Nazis. Chinese Jews lived in the cities of Kaifeng, Harbin, Shanghai and other cities.
